COUNSELING
STAFF
New this summer! In addition to living
in a cabin and, along with a co-counselor, being primarily
responsible for the participation and well-being of
the 10-12 campers in that cabin, counselors will also
specialize in a program area (e.g. sports, education,
challenge course, art, etc). When applying, individuals
should request program areas in which they have some
expertise (additional training will be provided during
Staff Orientation). Applicants will be hired as general
counselors; placement into appropriate eidot
(units) and specialty areas will take place approximately
four weeks prior to the summer.
Madrih
Tz'ir (Junior Counselor): Madrihim Tz'irim
live in cabins with the campers. They are involved in
every aspect of camp, providing the best possible camping
experience for their campers.
Graduating high school seniors
are eligible for this position.
Madrih
(Senior Counselor): Madrihim live in cabins
with the campers. They are involved in every aspect
of camp, providing the best possible camping experience
for their campers. As responsible, mature young adults,
madrihim serve as role models for the campers in how
to lead a healthy, Reconstructionist life.
Madrihim are entering college
sophomores or older.
Sgan
Rosh Eidah (Assistant Unit Head): The Sgan
Rosh Eidah serves as a senior counselor and assists
the Rosh Eidah in management and organization of the
eidah (unit).
Sganei Rashei Eidot are
entering college seniors or older.
Rosh
Eidah (Unit Head): The Rosh Eidah serves
as program director and coordinator for his/her eidah
(unit) and as a member of the all-camp senior program
staff. The Rosh Eidah is also responsible for day-to-day
management of the eidah.
Rashei Eidot are college
graduates and older.

STAFF
Rosh
Hinuh (Director of Education): The Rosh
Hinuh assists in the development of the camp curriculum
prior to the summer season. S/he works closely with
faculty to plan and implement the havayot (experiential
Jewish programming) and Civilization Days throughout
the summer. S/he also assists madrihim (counselors)
in running educational programs for their campers. The
Rosh Hinuh is responsible for organizing opportunities
for ongoing Jewish learning for staff members. S/he
should have extensive teaching experience and a high
level of proficiency in Judaism.
The position of Rosh Hinuh
is open to college graduates and older.
Rosh
Ruhaniyut v'Shira (Director of Spiritual and Music):
The Rosh Ruhaniyut v'Shira organizes all camp services,
song and dance sessions, and b'nai mitzvah tutoring.
Camp services consist of daily shaharit and ma'ariv,
kabbalat shabbat, shabbat morning Torah service, and
havdalah. The Rosh Ruhaniyut v'Shira should have extensive
prayer and song leading experience. Knowledge of and
ability to play musical instruments is preferred. Individuals
applying for this position should have knowledge of
Jewish song and dance in a cultural, as well as a religious,
sense.

SENIOR
PROGRAM STAFF
Challenge
Course Director: As Director of the Challenge
Education Program, this individual oversees the challenge
course site and program - using the high and low ropes
courses to build a stronger camp community while also
offering campers a way to challenge themselves. The
Challenge Course Director is responsible for designing
and implementing all programmatic aspects of the course,
while also guaranteeing the safety of all participants.
The Challenge Course Director must be certified to operate
a low and high ropes challenge course .
This position is open to
college graduates and older.
Aquatics
Director: The Waterfront Director oversees
all activities that take place at the pool and lake
on camp property, as well as managing the boating program
and boat slip at Lake Wallenpaupack. S/he should have
experience teaching children and managing an instructional
swimming program. The Waterfront Director must be a
person who can pay great detail to safety and organization,
and must have a calm demeanor. The Waterfront Director
must have current Water Safety Instructor certification
with CPR and Life Guard Training; small craft certifications
are preferred.
This position is open to
college graduates and older.
Sports
Director: The Sports Director oversees
the athletic component of our camp program. The Sports
Director must have extensive teaching experience and
a high level of proficiency in this specialty, preferably
in a number of sports. S/he must be able to integrate
recreational activities and healthy competition with
a clear sense of safety and Jewish values. S/he is responsible
for ensuring that all equipment and facilities are used
safely and remain in good repair.
This position is open to
college graduates and older.
Arts
Director: The Arts Director oversees the
artistic components of the camp program. S/he must have
extensive teaching experience and a high level of proficiency
in this specialty, preferably in a number of different
media. S/he must be able to integrate the arts with
Jewish values and with the summer educational program.
S/he will oversee all art-based electives and coordinate
with staff members to enrich other programs with the
arts.

college graduates and older.
Drama
Director: The Drama Director oversees the
drama components of the camp program. The Drama Director
must have extensive teaching experience and a high level
of proficiency in this specialty. S/he must be able
to integrate drama with Jewish values and with the summer
educational program. S/he will oversee all drama-based
electives and coordinate with staff members to enrich
other programs with drama and theater.

PROGRAM
STAFF
Members of the program staff will spend their days
in the program areas to which they are assigned (e.g.
aquatics, sports, challenge course, etc). In order to
create deeper connections with a specific group of campers,
these individuals will also serve as the third counselor
in a camper cabin, spending the evening, night, and
early morning there.

ropes challenge courses is required; certification is
a plus.

Lifeguard:
Lifeguards are responsible for the safety of all people
at the pool and lake areas. They will also be expected
to give instructional swim lessons. Qualified applicants
will be mature and responsible. Proper certification
is required; Water Safety Instructor certification is
preferred.

Challenge
Course Staff: These individuals will assist
the Challenge Course Director in running the Challenge
Education program. Experience teaching and using a challenge
course is preferred.

STAFF
Community
Life Specialist: The role of the Community
Life Specialist is to support the staff regarding concerns
with campers that may arise during the summer. This
individual is expected to visit the eidot (units)
throughout the day to observe camper interactions and
to work closely with the Camp Director to take notice
of particular campers with special needs. Extensive
experience working with children is essential; camp
experience and a degree in social work, psychology,
or a related field are preferred.
Nurse:
Nurses are responsible for organizing and managing the
dispensing of all medications, as well as caring for
sick campers and staff on a daily basis. They will work
with volunteer doctors to ensure the overall health
and safety of the camp. Nurses may be expected to go
with a camper or staff member to an emergency room or
other outside agency. All applicants must be registered
nurses with current licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.
Experience with pediatrics, camp, and/or a school setting
are preferred.
Doctor:
Doctors play a central role in ensuring the health and
wellbeing of the camp community. They respond to illness,
injury, and emergencies, and write prescriptions when
necessary. Doctors may be expected to go with a camper
or staff member to an emergency room or other outside
agency. All camp doctors must be licensed to practice
medicine in the state of Pennsylvania. Experience with
pediatrics, family, and/or emergency medicine are preferred.
This is a volunteer position.

ADMINISTRATIVE
STAFF
Administrative
Assistant: Responsibilities of the Administrative
Assistant include, but are not limited to, answering
phone calls and directing them to the appropriate individuals,
sorting mail, and making photocopies. The Administrative
Assistant works directly with the Administrator to ensure
the proper running of the camp office on a daily basis.
Program
Assistant: The Program Assistant helps
to ensure the proper programmatic running of camp. This
position includes, but is not limited to, helping to
organize supplies for daily programs, facilitating the
camp canteen, and helping with the general cleanliness
and organization of program spaces in camp.

SITE
STAFF
Kitchen:
Members of the kitchen staff are responsible for preparation,
service, and clean up of three meals a day for 225 people
each. These individuals are supervised by the Kitchen
Manager and must be honest, hard working, and able to
work as part of a team.
Maintenance:
Maintenance staff are responsible for upkeep of the
physical plant. Responsibilities may include painting,
repair work on cabins or other buildings, caring for
the grounds, and other necessary jobs around camp. These
individuals are supervised by the Maintenance Director
and must be honest, conscientious, and hard working.
